2024 NYS ENVIROTHON ORAL PRESENTATION
RULES AND REGULATIONS
The oral presentation component will be totaled into the team's final score just like the five other components (soil/land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife, and current issue). The problem-solving oral presentation will be conducted as follows:

The oral presentation problem is based on the NCF Current Issue and will be available on the New York State Envirothon website by the end of January.

The 2024 Envirothon Oral Presentation portion of the contest will use Google Slides to generate their presentation slideshow.
Students will create a maximum of 20-slide slideshow in Google Slides. No sound, video clip, video or slide transition animation may be used.

a.This slide show must be emailed to the State Envirothon Committee at nysenvirothonOP@gmail.com12pm on Friday May 17. If not received on time 10 points will be reduced and/or possible disqualification may result.

b.Your presentation must be labeled with your team number. If it is not 10 points will be reduced and/or possible disqualification may result.

c.Make sure that you have set the permission settings to share the presentation.

d.Make sure you have received a reply that we have received your presentation.

Go to https://docs.google.com/presentation/u/0/ in your account to create your slideshow. Make sure setting allows the document to be shared.

These are the only items a team is permitted to use to deliver its presentation, including all visuals that will be used during its presentation.

a.Google Slides- a flash drive is recommended as a backup.

b.Notecard-pencil only

c.Each team member may have one 4x6 index card.


Guidelines for Presentations

a.Only graphics and pictures created by the team may be utilized on slides.

b.Any material used in the slide show needs to be cited in references on the last slide.

c.Each team will have ten minutes for their presentation. The judges will then have five minutes to ask the students questions.

d.A timekeeper will remind the students of each of the last three minutes of the presentation time. Points will be deducted for less than 8 minutes, and the presentation will be stopped at 10 minutes.

A laptop computer (with your presentation preloaded), a display screen and slide advancer will be provided in your presentation room.  
A panel of judges will score the oral presentations using the score sheets provided on the NYS Envirothon website.
All members must have a speaking part. Points will be deducted if all members do not participate.
All references should be cited on the last slide of presentation.

Things to keep in mind:

•Students should be prepared to talk on the topic and not read facts from the slides. Slides that are heavy on text and read from will not receive a high score. Slideshows will be inspected prior to presentations will be previewed for three things: no more than twenty (20) slides, no motion, sound bites or video clips and references. Also, no cell phones, ear buds or digital devices are allowed in the room.

•All index cards must be handwritten! No printed or typed material will be accepted. Teams using anything but the materials listed for their Oral Presentation will be subject to disqualification.

•Students should collaborate with fellow team members to prepare for the problem-solving presentation. Teachers and coaches should not prepare their teams presentation. The CNY Envirothon Committee will not answer questions about the scenario, teams are expected to interpret it on their own.

•Teams may organize team members in any way but are reminded all team members must participate. Costumes or "dressing the part", roll playing, or “skits” are not allowed. Event T-shirts must be worn during the presentation.

•There is to be no direct contact with the judges before, during, or after the presentation. No brochures, handouts, or pamphlets will be allowed to be distributed.
