In the beginning... The Envirothon began in Pennsylvania in 1979, than known as the Environmental Olympics. Its popularity quickly grew as a national event with more states becoming involved each year. New York State held its 1st Envirothon in 1990. Today, most States and Provinces participate in the Canon Envirothon, reaching more than 500,000 students. Thanks to dedicate volunteers, devoted teachers, enthusiast students, and generous sponsors, the Envirothon continues to prove itself as a useful tool for integrating environmental studies into science curriculums. |
